Our Programs & Classes

Students and enthusiasts of Taekwondo have many reasons for their interest in this and other martial art styles. Some are drawn to the physical fitness and weight-loss aspects of training. Others seek to add discipline and self control to their lives. While still others are concerned about safety and self-defense.

Whether you are interested in our programs for mental or physical well being, Anatolia Family Taekwondo offers classes that will fit your developmental needs.

Taekwondo

  • Although each taekwondo club or school will be different, at Anatolia Family Taekwondo a student can typically expect to take part in all of the following:
  • Learning the techniques and curriculum of taekwondo
  • Both anaerobic and aerobic workout, including stretching
  • Self-defense techniques (hosinsul 호신술)
  • Patterns (also called forms, pumsae 품새, teul 틀, hyeong 형)
  • Sparring (called gyeorugi 겨루기, or matseogi 맞서기 in the ITF), which may include 7-, 3-, 2- and 1-step sparring, free-style sparring, arranged sparring, point sparring, and other types
  • Competition among other taekwondo schools to practice the techniques learned
  • Breaking (gyeokpa 격파 or weerok), using techniques to break boards for testing, training and martial arts demonstrations. Demonstrations often also incorporate bricks, tiles, blocks of ice or other materials. Can be separated into three types:
    • Power breaking – using straightforward techniques to break as many boards as possible
    • Speed breaking – boards are held loosely by one edge, putting special focus on the speed required to perform the break
    • Special techniques – breaking fewer boards but using jumping or flying techniques to attain greater heights, distances, or to clear obstacles
  • Exams to progress to the next rank

Our taekwondo programs have an opportunity to test for advancement every twelve weeks. With each advancement, a new journey begins as well as a new blocks, punches, kicks and best of all, a new form. As our students continue to progress through the belt ranks, they will begin to develop the skills necessary for self-defense as well as a solid foundation for taekwondo. With these skills, the students are able to get into better shape and gain self-confidence.

Anatolia Family Taekwondo has the privilege of being a member of the Pacific 5 Star alliance. This group makes up of 5 local taekwondo schools, who we are able to compete against 4 times a year, including Black Belt Championships. Within this group, there is a panel of 7 school owners, as well as multiple black belts, who will administer black belt testings three times a year. It is an honor to test in front of this panel and to participate in such a large group when earning any degree of black belt. These people are not only taekwondo students and enthusiasts, but many of them will become great life long friends.

Lil’ Dragons

Anatolia Family Taekwondo’s Lil’ Dragons program is a detailed curriculum for ages 3-6 that focuses on improving preschool-age children’s basic motor and listening skills. The program will enhance positive development in a fun and motivating way. The Lil’ Dragons program will also prepare your child for our beginners taekwondo program.

In Lil’ Dragons, your child will be exposed to positive social interaction. They will learn how to work with others and follow directions from their instructors. Our Lil’ Dragons instructors are good role models who are great with pre-school children.

Our Lil’ Dragons program is a detailed program encompassing both physical and mental benefits. The curriculum consists of developing eight major skills necessary for participation in any sport or activity. The eight skills emphasized in our program include focus, teamwork, control, balance, memory, discipline, fitness and coordination. They will also learn the basics of taekwondo such as kicks, blocks, punches, general exercises, and self-defense moves. They will also be taught the Tenets of Taekwondo, which every student should practice not only in class, but outside of class. The Lil’ Dragons program also teaches combinations similar of the beginners class, to teach how to combine moves and to gain additional coordination. This program also adds in games to help with the eight skills our program emphasizes.

Students in this class have an opportunity every twelve weeks to participate in rank testing for advancement. With advancement comes a new colored belt to show their progress. These belts are outstanding achievements that kids love to show off. Individual achievement and class participation stripes are also given during the class cycles to help encourage the kids to focus, show teamwork, and to promote their attendance. Lil’ Dragons also have a special part of our taekwondo tournaments, were they are able to compete against other Lil’ Dragons in our Pacific 5 Star alliance. This is a great time to show off their combinations and to show others their new colored belts and achievement stripes.

Anatolia Family Taekwondo’s Lil’ Dragons program is aimed at making learning fun and educational. Our goal is to help your pre-school aged children be the best they can be at everything they put their minds to.
